We care deeply about all of our customers, and believe that going the extra mile to deliver results pays dividends. We’re looking to hire an experienced Solutions Engineer to help our customers understand our product and make the most of their data. Our customers use Heap to make important business decisions, and you'll be on the front line helping them, by answering their emails, building reports, leading trainings, and helping with implementation. Head of Demand Generation

We’re looking for our first marketing hire.

At Heap, we’ve made a fundamental innovation in analytics, and companies like Zendesk and Optimizely have chosen us over more established incumbents. Our revenue has increased more than 5x in the prior year.

We’ve built the beginnings of a talented engineering, customer success, and sales organization. Now, we're looking to bring on our first hire responsible for building the marketing engine that gets us to $100M in ARR and beyond.

  • Devise and implement every part of a content strategy for Heap - content creation, landing pages, promotion
  • Implement our marketing automation and lead nurturing processes
  • Manage ad spend, email marketing, and other demand-generation activities
  • Work closely with the sales team to understand how leads turn into qualified opportunities
  • Eventually, recruit and manage additional specialized marketing roles
  • A strong content marketer - Creating great content comes naturally to you. You’re overflowing with ideas for blog posts and other content.
  • Good at promotion - You understand distribution and are creative when it comes to getting things seen.
  • Data-driven - You measure your activities and you iterate based on data. You’re not afraid of terms like “logistic regression” or “factor analysis.”
  • ROI-driven - You don’t just worry about leads - you worry whether they’re turning into qualified opportunities and eventually revenue, and what we’re spending to get them.
  • 2 or more years experience at a SaaS company in a marketing role
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience with content creation and promotion, ideally at a SaaS company
  • Experience with marketing automation software such as Marketo or Hubspot
  • Bonus: Proficiency with HTML / CSS and Adobe Creative Suite

Software Engineer

We're eager to meet all types of engineers, regardless of where you live or what tools you use day-to-day. Your creativity and intelligence are much more important to us than your experience with our stack.

How we work

Happy Customers > Perfect Code. We're out to solve real problems for real people, not to write slick code or play with the hippest frameworks. We spend a lot of time thinking through how to build new features, but the goal is always for the implementation to be maintainable, not for it to be 'pure.'

Vision > GroupThink. A big idea starts in one person's head. We make sure he or she has the space to develop it into a fully-articulated thought before we iterate on it as a group. No brainstorming, no design-by-committee -- these produce watered-down initiatives and incremental ideas.

Writing > Talking. Instead of sitting in meetings, we develop our ideas in writing, asynchronously. Written proposals encourage clearer thought and more thorough deliberation. Our plans are always documented and our culture is remote-friendly.

What we're looking for
  • you communicate with clarity and precision. We care about this almost as much as your technical ability.
  • you're passionate, even if it's not about analytics. There should be something you know more about than anyone on our team.
  • you’ve written 10,000 lines of code that look embarrassing in retrospect. ... and you've written 10,000 lines of good code since then.
  • you like fruit, sunshine, and bad jokes. We aren't robots.
What we're building

Our app-layer stack is TypeScript, Backbone, Node.js, Redis, and PostgreSQL. Under the hood, Heap is powered by CoffeeScript, Scala, ZooKeeper, Kafka, and CitusDB.

  • Data capture. We want to provide our users with the richest possible dataset. That means building new integrations (like Android), capturing more semantic data (like A/B test groups), and pulling in data from other sources (like Stripe). All of this has to happen with virtually no performance cost or integration overhead.
  • Real-time infrastructure. We support an expressive set of queries that allow our users to slice and dice their data in arbitrary ways. The results need to come back with sub-second latencies and reflect up-to-the-minute data. We're working on a new distributed infrastructure to make this possible.
  • Data visualization. Building Heap is as much a design problem as anything else. The most powerful analytics infrastructure in the world doesn't matter if our users can't access that power and understand the results.

Heap has raised $13M in funding from NEA, Y Combinator, Menlo Ventures, SVAngel, Sam Altman, Garry Tan, Alexis Ohanian, Harj Taggar, Ram Shriram, and others.

Our office is in San Francisco, but we have engineers around the world and are absolutely open to more remote engineers. We'd love to hear from you!

Infrastructure / DevOps Engineer

Our revenue has increased more than 5x in the last year, and we’re scaling Heap to meet the demand. Our backend supports an expressive set of queries that need to come back with sub-second latencies and reflect up-to-the-minute data. To make this possible, we’re working on a new distributed infrastructure.

We’re looking to bring on our first Infrastructure Engineer to lead the DevOps side of this challenge. Help us de-risk our stack, add more 9s to our availability, and incorporate open source tooling.

You’ll own the design and development of our DevOps toolchain. You’ll build a deploy pipeline and manage configurations. You’ll set up performance metrics and act on them to scale a complex distributed system.

  • Select a service discovery tool and incorporate it into a codebase that assumes static locations for services.
  • Set up centralized logging and tools like Kibana for making use of the data.
  • Standardize our VPC configuration, which has a number of bad warts.
  • Set up Terraform or CloudFormation and use it to manage the complicated aspects of our AWS configuration.
  • Determine how we’ll monitor, backup, and otherwise operate our ZooKeeper cluster.
  • Much, much more.
  • you communicate with clarity and precision. We care about this almost as much as your technical ability.
  • You’re self-directed with a strong sense for relative priority. There is low-hanging fruit everywhere. We need someone who has a good sense for which projects will have the most impact.
  • You have experience with AWS, especially EC2, VPC, and ELB.
  • (Bonus) You have experience with our stack. Heap runs on Kafka, ZooKeeper, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Node.js.

Email us at jobs@heapanalytics.com if you think you'd make a great fit.

Business Ops Engineer

As a Business Ops Engineer, you’ll the build internal tools that scale our business to ever-growing orders of magnitude.

You’ll work with engineers to build lasting products, but your end-users will be sitting right next to you: they’re the folks in marketing, sales, and customer success who grow Heap.

We prefer to solve problems with data and automation, not headcount and grunt work. It’s easy to burn money and time on scaling problems. You’ll make sure to uncover the leverage we need in order to grow our business efficiently, for many years to come.

  • Karl built a Slack bot named heapcat, which streamlines workflows for our success team and saves them from running ad-hoc database commands on prod. For instance, extending an account’s trial is as simple as telling heapcat to extend-trial foo@bar.com 7 days!
  • Taylor consolidated data from multiple disparate sources into Redshift. This lets us produce more complete analytics dashboards and better understand our business.
  • Matin built a framework that makes it easy to configure and test drip email campaigns based on behavioral data. We want you to help open-source it!
  • Build sustainable tools to power our business teams. Experimentation, lead scoring, churn prediction, data warehousing, workflow automation. Every stage of customer acquisition can be optimized with data and software. (As a bonus, you’ll become a Heap power user!)
  • Collaborate with engineers to ship quality code. Since there’s a massive space of tools to build, technical judgment is crucial. What tech should we build upon? Does a new tool require a nice interface, or will a one-off script suffice? In-house or third-party?
  • Set your own roadmap. The feedback loop between your ideas and your shipped code couldn’t be tighter. Each day, you’ll be testing your prototypes with teammates in order to find the highest impact initiatives for our business and iterate quickly on shipping them.
  • Have a quantifiable impact on our growth. Whether it’s lead velocity, signup conversion, win rate, or net retention, your products will have a direct and measurable impact on our most important metrics. Everyone in sales, marketing, and success will adore you.

Communications Designer

As communications designer #1 at Heap, you'll own the design of Heap's brand and messaging.

You'll infuse our entire customer journey with the Heap identity. This means tackling design challenges in just about every context: our marketing pages, product updates, educational tools, video graphics, email campaigns, conference banners, and more.

  • Give Heap an identity. People will make their first impressions of us based on our brand. You’ll help enforce a consistent aesthetic and an authentic voice across all our user touchpoints.
  • Work closely with each part of the business. One day, you might work with our product team to craft new feature pages. The next day, you might work with our success team to highlight our fastest-growing customers.
  • Design polished experiences. We believe design polish takes just as much time as the first 90% of any project. Our ideal candidate will relish seeing projects all the way to completion.
  • (Bonus) Design illustrations and motion. We love design that pops. Illustration and motion graphics can often go a long way in better communicating our message.
  • Strong visual design sense
  • Strong iconography, typography, and vector design skills
  • Experience with the end-to-end process of designing, shipping, and refining new communication materials
  • (Bonus) Illustration, animation and motion design experience, especially on the web
  • (Bonus) Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript, so you can iterate on high-fidelity designs yourself
  • (Bonus) Familiarity with marketing and customer success-related tools that have customer-facing components (Hubspot, Marketo, Help Scout, etc.)

Heap has raised $13M in funding from NEA, Y Combinator, Menlo Ventures, SVAngel, Sam Altman, Garry Tan, Alexis Ohanian, Harj Taggar, Ram Shriram, and others.

We work in San Francisco and can cover relocation costs. We'd love to hear from you!

Product Designer

As Heap's first product designer, you’ll own our core product design challenge: make data science accessible to everyone. The most powerful analytics infrastructure in the world doesn't matter if people can't access that power and understand the results.

Despite major advances in technology, most people rely on someone else to extract insight for them. At best, this creates bottlenecks and slows teams down. At worst, people ignore data altogether and make guesses.

  • Design new products. You’ll guide the creation process: conceiving features, iterating on prototypes, and crafting launch pages. You’ll focus on intuitive interactions, but you’ll also gain broad exposure to dataviz, user research, branding, and copywriting.
  • Keep humans top-of-mind. The perfect analytics tool won’t just look pretty. It’ll help humans better collaborate and tell stories with data. Analytics drives decision-making, and decision-making is fundamentally done by teams.
  • Work closely with engineers. Heap sits right on the edge of technical feasibility; many of our product launches were the firstoftheirkind. You’ll work closely with engineers to stay aware of technical constraints (and new possibilities!).
  • Give Heap an identity. People will make their first impressions of us based on our brand. You’ll work with the entire team to enforce a consistent aesthetic and an authentic voice across all our user touchpoints: marketing pages, docs, emails, and more.
  • (Bonus) Incorporate stats and machine learning. We firmly believe that analytics tools will evolve to be more predictive. To this end, you should be willing to learn basic statistical concepts (e.g. how supervised learning works).
  • Strong visual and interaction design sense.
  • Experience with the end-to-end process of designing, shipping, and refining a product.
  • (Bonus) Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript, so you can iterate on high-fidelity prototypes yourself.

We're looking to bring on sales hires to help us scale to $100M in ARR and beyond.

You'll be the most direct source of revenue growth at Heap. You'll be the main steward of Heap's brand to growing and mid-size companies. And as we scale, your insights will dictate how our sales team operates at 10 and 100 people.

  • Excited by uncertainty - As an early sales hire, you won’t be a cog in a well-oiled machine. Instead, you’ll help build our sales infrastructure and culture from the ground up.
  • Comfortable talking to a variety of users - Heap plays a day-to-day role for a wide range of people: engineers, marketers, product managers, designers, data scientists, and CEOs. You’ll interface with some or all of these in an organization to close deals.

Lead Technical Recruiter

As recruiter #1, you’ll be in charge of growing Heap’s engineering team.

Heap is a massive technical undertaking. Each day, we process billions of data points and power analytics for some of the largest companies in the world. As such, developing a world-class engineering team is one of the most important things we can do.

Building Heap requires exceptional engineers, which in turn requires exceptional recruiting. You’ll work directly with the CEO and engineering team to define our end-to-end recruiting process.

  • Attract the best people. Sourcing will be your top priority. You'll need to be creative and analytical in building an outreach engine that adds as many excellent engineers to our pipeline as possible.
  • Coordinate our interview process. Candidates often cite Heap as having the best interview process amongst all the companies they speak with. You’ll coordinate this process as it scales and use data to make sure it remains efficient and fair.
  • Design a human experience for candidates. Being data-driven shouldn’t mean we treat applicants as spreadsheet rows. With prompt turnaround, honest feedback, and transparency into Heap, you’ll make sure we treat people well.
  • Build the recruiting org at Heap. As our first recruiting hire, you’ll help define how the recruiting organization should work as Heap continues to grow.

Our revenue has increased more than 5x in the prior year, and we’re now hiring at a rapid pace to keep up with our revenue growth.

Developing a world-class go-to-market team is one of the most important things we can do, and you’ll be responsible for sourcing and supporting the entire GTM recruiting process as we scale our team from 30 to 200 people.

As one of the founding members of our marketing team, you’ll work at the intersection of sales and marketing, developing marketing campaigns across multiple channels. You’ll manage these campaigns from ideation to execution and optimization. Sales Operations Director

Heap has made a fundamental innovation in analytics, and companies like Zendesk and Optimizely have chosen us over other alternatives because of our "capture everything" approach to analytics. Our revenue has increased more than 3x in the prior year, and we're looking for a Sales Operations Director to help us scale to $100M in ARR and beyond.

You'll own operational strategy and planning, sales org modeling and target setting, compensation structures, KPI reporting and analytics, forecasting, deal hygiene, and systems design and maintenance - all delivering significant impact and results. You'll work closely with our Head of Sales and our founders.

  • Create and optimize sales processes, data and applications that support the sales team
  • Administration of Salesforce and other sales systems, including integrations and vendor management
  • Implement product and territory modules in Salesforce
  • Development and ownership of the revenue model and go-to-market plan
  • Business analytics reporting and analysis, with a particular focus on early warning signals emerging in data trends and mitigating actions
  • Provide accurate forecasts based on pipeline, close ratios, and deal inputs from the sales team
  • Partner with sales and marketing on account and contact acquisition that fuels outbound demand generation activities
  • Establish compensation, training, and sales incentive programs
  • Ad-hoc initiatives for the CEO, COO, and Heads of Sales and Marketing
  • 3-5 years of experience in sales operations, finance, business operations, or consulting
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to develop dashboards and reports in Salesforce
  • Ability to write SQL and work with Biz Ops
  • Detailed understanding of a SaaS sales organization structure

Product Marketing Lead

Tell Heap’s story to the world.

As Heap’s very first product marketer, you will own our market positioning and do whatever it takes to ensure our products keep resonating with customers. Your work will impact just about every team at Heap, from our engineering efforts to our broader go-to-market strategy. We can’t build an enduring business without the very best product marketing.

We have no product managers and a nascent (one person!) marketing team, so you’ll be building this function from the ground up.

  • Research customer needs. Heap is used by a wide range of roles across a range of industries: PMs in the Fortune 500, marketers in e-commerce, founders at fintech startups, etc. You’ll be the customer voice and keep everyone at Heap aligned on how best to serve them.
  • Craft messaging. You’ll anchor our entire go-to-market org on a bold, consistent product story. You’ll help our sales team pitch against competitors, test marketing messages, define target personas, and get customers excited about any new technology we ship.
  • Manage product communication. We’re constantly launching big new features. Whether through blog posts, ad campaigns, collateral, Product Hunt, or PR, you’ll communicate our evolving product narrative to existing customers, Heap teammates, and the broader market.
  • Create our sales playbook. As we scale out our sales efforts, we’ll need a single, definitive resource on all things sales: the high-level pitch, segmenting across industries and personas, customer case studies, competitive comparisons, and more.
  • Organize a feature launch process. If a product never gets marketed, is it ever truly shipped? We need someone to own the entire launch process, from managing the beta to writing the feature announcement post to working with partners for co-marketing to bigger PR efforts.
  • Lead the design of our marketing pages. We recently shipped a big redesign our homepage, but we have yet to transfer the new high-level messaging and design aesthetic to the rest of our marketing pages. You’ll need to work with design to get this done.
  • 3+ years of product marketing or product management
  • Strategic thinking about every piece of the larger analytics market
  • Technical enough to dive into the nitty-gritty of the Heap product
  • Able to organize chaos into action with exceptional project management
  • Clear and authentic communicator, with a healthy disdain for corporate speak
  • Strong quantitative sense, measuring everything you do (with Heap, of course!)

Content Marketing Lead

Heap has made a fundamental innovation in analytics, and we're looking for a content marketer who can help us communicate that shift to the market and bring in new business. Over 5,000 companies like Zendesk and Optimizely have chosen us over more established incumbents and we’d like you to help us build on that momentum.

Great storytelling isn’t just informative. It’s engaging, provocative, and inspires action. We’re looking for a passionate content marketer to drive content marketing strategy, take ownership of communications, messaging, and most importantly, genuinely connect with our users.

As the content marketing lead, you’ll own both content strategy and execution, translating the brand and value proposition into content themes and assets that drive leads. Join our brand new marketing team and help us build from the ground up. Help us tell our story.

  • We have a very valuable proprietary data set (anonymized, aggregated, and used with permission, of course!) that you can use to strengthen the stories you tell
  • We have a number of data experts that can help with producing industry leading content
  • We’re just getting started with content, so you’ll be building things from the ground up
  • You’ll also be an early marketing team member, giving you the opportunity to shape our marketing in a big way
  • Do a deep dive on our brand, positioning, messaging, and product
  • Talk to different functions at the company for their unique views on our business, product, and customers
  • Talk to our customers to figure out how content can solve their pain points, how to reach them, and what stories will resonate with them
  • Audit our current content and processes around production and distribution, then build better ones
  • Build a content calendar and start shipping blog posts
  • Start planning your first large content piece
  • Build and execute Heap’s content marketing calendar
  • Tell the Heap story in an engaging, dynamic way
  • Engage, delight, and convert key customer segments
  • Help meet marketing goals around brand awareness, lead generation, traffic growth, acquisition, and retention
  • Make sure content marketing strategy is well defined, communicated, continually measured and optimized
  • Work closely with sales, product, and customer success to develop communications
  • Develop great content: whitepapers, e-books, infographics, blog posts, decks and more
  • Build and manage relationships with analysts, co-marketing partners, and vendors
  • 3-5 years experience in content marketing (minimum), ideally in B2B SaaS
  • Strategic, passionate storytelling ability
  • Ability to understand and communicate our brand personality
  • Experience analyzing content data for reports and optimization opportunities
  • Proven track record of driving successful content strategy across channels
  • Great sense of humor

Field Marketer

Heap has powered a fundamental innovation in analytics. Over 4,000 companies like Zendesk, Optimizely, and Esurance have chosen us over more established incumbents and we’d like you to help us build on that momentum.

We're looking for our first Field Marketer (and our second marketing hire overall) to help us better engage our customers and broaden our reach through events, trade shows, account-based marketing campaigns, and any other ideas you come up with.

We are looking for self-motivated marketers that aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Ideally, you’re an analytical thinker that can move quickly between projects while keeping the bigger picture in mind. Help us build Heap from the ground up.

  • Plan and coordinate events in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and anywhere else our customers are located
  • Identify the trade shows and conferences we should be attending and develop an execution plan
  • Develop and experiment with new ideas for offline marketing campaigns
  • You have multiple years working in a sales/marketing role with at least 1 year of event/field marketing, ideally at a B2B SaaS company.
  • You’re data-driven. Just because field marketing tends to happen offline doesn’t mean it can’t be measured.
  • You’re creative. The most memorable marketing campaigns are the ones that stand out.
  • You’re hard-working and take initiative. We don’t have a “field marketing playbook” that we’re hiring you to execute–you’ll have to figure it out yourself.

We’re located in San Francisco. Our revenue has grown 3x over the course of this year, and we’ve raised $13M in funding from NEA, Y Combinator, Menlo Ventures, SVAngel, Sam Altman, Garry Tan, Alexis Ohanian, Harj Taggar, Ram Shriram, and others.

People Operations manager

Heap has made a fundamental innovation in analytics, and we’ve grown very quickly as a result. Our team has more than doubled in size over the last year. We’re hiring for our first People Operations Manager to help ensure the well-being and career development of our employees.

  • Keep your finger on the pulse of Heap. You’ll use quantitative methods (e.g. internal NPS) and qualitative methods (e.g. one-on-one conversations) to learn about what we’re doing well and what needs improvement.
  • Own our employee experience. You’ll think about ways to foster collaboration, inclusivity, and cohesion, and work with our founders, office manager, and team leads to execute these programs.
  • Work with managers to foster career progression. Team leads should be thinking about the career progression and unique needs of the individuals who report to them, but sometimes that takes a back seat to other company objectives. Your job is to make sure that doesn’t happen.
  • Help foster inclusivity. You’ll work with the leadership to think about what concrete programs and goals we should put in place to encourage an environment of inclusivity, and how we should measure our progress towards those goals.
  • 3 or more years of work experience at startups
  • A quantitative mindset towards problem-solving
  • A high degree of empathy and emotional intelligence
  • An ability to work in an ambiguous, changing environment with little concrete direction

Heap has raised $13M in funding from NEA, Y Combinator, Menlo Ventures, SVAngel, Sam Altman, Garry Tan, Alexis Ohanian, Harj Taggar, Ram Shriram, and others. We work in San Francisco and we'd love to hear from you!
