Bitcoin are produced through a process called "mining". There is an upper limit of 21 million bitcoin that will ever be mined. The number of coins that are mined in each block is called the "reward". This reward decreases as time passes.
The last 7% of bitcoin will be mined over a timespan of 100 years. Those years are not included in this chart.
The price before July 2010 is unknown because there were no markets.
