2,081 Commits, 90 releases and 332 Closed Issues Later: Thank You for Helping Kontena Reach 1.0!
Back in April 2015, we first announced Kontena as “the developer friendly container and microservices platform”. Today — 2,081 commits, 90 releases and 332 closed issues later — we’re proud to release Kontena 1.0, a major milestone not only for Kontena as a company and a product, but also for our growing developer community.
When we launched, we had a very limited set of features. Among those features was support for stateful containers and multi-region, something no one else was doing in the container platform world. With Kontena 1.0 release, we keep on pushing the envelope.
Containers are great on their own, but they hold much more opportunity. The IT community is just now starting to realize that containers are the building blocks for something bigger. That’s why we’re excited to announce that Kontena 1.0 includes Kontena Stacks, an end-to-end solution for developers to manage their applications that are composed of multiple containers. Stacks may be used to describe, install and upgrade even the most complex solutions.
This release is the culmination of more than one and a half years of hard work and we could not have gotten here without the tremendous support of our community. Thank you!
Kontena is already seeing broad adoption by the developer community. In fact, Kontena is currently used by more than 100 organizations around the world, powering tens of thousands of containers in production. They are using Kontena because it allows them to focus on their own software instead of configuring and maintaining complicated container frameworks. With today’s release, they can be further assured that Kontena has reached an important stage of maturity and stability.

And what’s more, Kontena can be operated 100 percent automatically, thus further reducing your platform maintenance burden.
Scalable
You can start with just few hosts running several containers and scale up to hundreds of hosts powering thousands of containers. The size of your project does not affect the effort needed to deploy Kontena platform. With Kontena's built-in provisioning tools you can easily adjust the size of your deployment according to your business needs. Start small, grow big and scale down if needed with just few simple commands.
Cross-region & Hybrid
Kontena supports natively cross-region and hybrid cloud deployments. Your application can utilize aggregated resources from any hosts connected to the Kontena Grid whether in your own datacenter or public cloud across regions and availability zones; bare metal or virtual.
Advanced
Kontena is more than just a container platform. It's a full-stack solution that includes all the functionality you need to run your applications packaged as Docker containers in production. Key features include secrets management, fully integrated load balancer, built-in image registry and the lifecycle management of complete containerized application stacks.
Proven
Have a need for ultra scalable, easy to maintain solution for your backend? Kontena is the container & microservices platform for you. We’re already trusted in production by banks and healthcare providers, proven across complex enterprise apps and working closely together with all major players in the container ecosystem.
Community-driven
Kontena is an open-source platform built in GitHub, which means we’re connected to an entire community of developers who provide requests and contributions for new features. Rather than just being another vendor trying to give users what it thinks they want, our community is comprised of users and developers who help us make what they want, in ways that fit their precise needs. With nearly 1,000 stars on GitHub, we prioritize our community of developers, who are already building a fleet of apps, plugins and components to work with the Kontena platform. Our open-source status allows for more customizability, flexibility, interoperability and of course, quality.
Supported
Customer support is a top priority for the Kontena team. We can be reached via Slack, GitHub and Twitter for help, in addition to more traditional customer support channels. When you reach out to Kontena for answers about your deployment, you can be assured you aren’t being sent to some remote call center or forced to deal with an automated chatbot – you’re interacting with the same people who created the product.
